Come on down to tonight’s city council meeting to give your input on several important Provo issues. The council will be voting on a number of resolutions including the hiring of a new Executive Director.
Here are some of the questions we’ll be discussing:
How should community development funds be allocated? Every year the city receives funds that must be used for community development in high-need areas. This year, the council has discussed using the money for a variety of programs, improving Pioneer Park, and funding a new park for the Spring Creek neighborhood.
Should the city allow a business to transfer its liquor license to another site downtown? A downtown establishment (Atchafalaya) was asked to relocate due to the development of the new convention center. However, they will be unable to continue business unless they are permitted to use their liquor license in their new location.
Should the city permit the Isles Project to have the requested zoning? A private student housing development is in the works for just south of BYU’s campus. The developer is asking the council to approve zoning that allows for fewer parking spaces due to the development’s proximity to campus.
Should the Mayor be authorized to submit an application for a Health and Human Services Grant? Mayor Curtis would like to apply for a grant that provides funds for a mentoring program at the Boulders Apartment Complex in south Provo.
If you’d like to share your input or see what your neighbors have to say, don’t forget to show up tonight at 7:00 p.m.
As always, you can download the official council agenda from the Provo City website.
