Although the Nu Skin discussion was postponed, several important decisions were made at this week’s city council meeting.
The council and the mayor passed a joint resolution supporting the 2010 Census. Every Provo family will soon receive a Census form in the mail. Please, take a few minutes to fill it out and send it back so that the government has the info it needs to make decisions related to Provo’s population. It’s only 10 questions and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete!
The council also discussed a proposal to clarify the city code regarding neighborhood meeting requirements for development proposals. I received many emails and phone calls from residents who were concerned that the changes may limit the information given to neighborhood chairs. The council voted not to implement the changes. Instead, we’re going to consider adding a third paragraph that makes the notifications for neighborhood chairs more transparent.
Mayor Curtis asked the chair to consider several budget appropriations for city departments. The council agreed with his requests and approved the proposals.
Finally, the council considered a request from the Clydsedale Bend subdivision developer to alter the standing development agreement. Several neighbors spoke about their concerns and the developer said he would be willing to meet with them before a decision was made. The council will review the request again after the two groups have a chance to discuss the issue.
As always, you can watch the entire city council meeting online at any time through Provo Chanel 17. You can also view meeting agendas and minutes through the Provo City website.
